Q: Will I lose any emails during migration?
A: No. PolarisMail uses a 3-step migration process. The first migration is your full mailbox. The second migration makes sure everything is synced. Finally, the 3rd migration catches any stragglers a few days later.
Q: Will there be a service interruption?
A: Minimal downtime (typically 15-30 minutes) during MX record cutover. This is unavoidable with any email migration, but Laughing Squid optimizes to minimize it (if we host your DNS records).
Q: What happens to my email address?
A: Your email address (user@yourdomain.com) does not change. You keep the same address, domain, and users see no visible change.
Q: What about my password?
A: Your existing Rackspace password will need to be given to Laughing Squid for migration, or you can create a new one just for the migration. You can change it again after the 3rd migration to catch any last-minute emails.
Q: Can I go back to Rackspace if I don't like PolarisMail?
A: You can migrate away from PolarisMail to any provider. However, Rackspace's current pricing makes this less cost-effective.
Q: What about email Alias accounts?
A: Provide a list of the Alias accounts in the migration ticket.
Q: Is PolarisMail secure?
A: Yes. 256-bit SSL/TLS encryption, two-factor authentication, 99%+ spam/virus filtering, multi-layer backups, and 99.99% uptime guarantee.
Q: What happens if I delete emails after the migration?
A: PolarisMail keeps a 30-day live archive. (Contact Laughing Squid support for longer-term archive if needed.)
