What is Cloud Sites?
Cloud Sites hosting is a form of distributed hosting. In this environment, your website files and data is stored on separate clusters servers, instead of a single stand-alone server. This provides increased reliability, reducing the risk of downtime by removing a single point of failure.
Cloud Sites can host the self-hosted WordPress.org software, as well as other scripts that can host in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MariaDB, PHP) environment. Cloud Sites is more of a DIY platform, where you install and maintain your own website scripts.
What is Managed WordPress?
Managed WordPress hosting (MWP) is hosting for websites specifically using the WordPress platform. On MWP, the WordPress core files, themes, and plugins are all updated automatically to the latest stable releases. MWP is optimized with caching to improve speeds and comes with security features like daily backups. A free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate and a Jetpack subscription are also included in all MWP plans.
MWP is perfect for anyone hosting WordPress that is looking to focus on their website content, and not so much on the backend upgrading and maintaining of the software.
Which is right for my site?
If you are hosting WordPress, Cloud Sites and Managed WordPress are both perfectly suited for this. Cloud Sites requires you to be more of an administrator of the website to keep up to date with core files, themes, and plugins, as well as performing your own site files and database backups.
If you don’t feel comfortable keeping WordPress up-to-date and backed-up, the MWP is the right option to basically set it and forget it, and focus on blogging and content on a very stable environment.
If you aren’t hosting WordPress at all, then you would be better suited to host and maintain your script with our Cloud Sites hosting.
